“I am primarily a spoken word artist with the ability to rap, produce, and audio engineer music. My strength is articulating my thoughts and emotions in a synergistic way that showcases Black excellence.” - Wes Lee The Wordsmith
Wes Lee The Wordsmith has been deemed "The Poet bringing raw soul back into Hip-Hop" because of his vintage hip-hop sound mixed with his new era spoken word flow.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Wes Lee The Wordsmith is the living definition of being comfortable with one’s self. This will be evident to music lovers when they listen to his catalog and upcoming work. However, this confidence wasn’t always present as mentioned in his past interview with Voyage ATL (July 22, 2019):
“I also struggled with finding balance, I am a man of many hats and finding that balance is key. The balance between passion and survival. The balance between purpose and paycheck. The balance between creativity and career. The balance between thinking I was the best and thinking I wasn’t good enough. The balance between highs and lows. You can’t move efficiently when your equilibrium is off. You can hardly think straight.”
With three projects completed - "Diary of a Potted Plant" LP, "COPE" EP, and "COPE Deluxe" LP, Wes Lee The Wordsmith is on the verge of a spoken word offering that is titled "TWIMB (To Whom It May Benefit)" LP. The project leads an avalanche of quality projects under Wes Lee's Bonzeye Productions imprint.
"All expressions of our culture are valid, however, it appears that the anger, depression, and self-destructive tendencies of it are being produced and distributed more. As my work was being heard, it seemed that most critics didn’t know how to categorize or embrace me because I didn’t fit the molds that they knew."
“I hope for these songs to be so raw, and relatable, and a picture of imperfection, that allows people to connect with it so much deeper than music you hear in the mainstream...”

"Overall, the project is verbose and has a range of emotions and styles. Wes Lee The Wordsmith knows the assignment and gives listeners his true thoughts without sugar coating anything."

"The Fresh Prince of Poetry... Among his fan base Wes Lee The Wordsmith has affectionately become known as a poet with a preference for dope beats rather than haikus and is often praised for bringing raw genuine soul and emotions back into Hip-Hop."
